Sarahana Shrestha
Candidate for New York State Assembly
About Sarahana
Sarahana is a first-generation immigrant from Nepal, a climate organizer, and a lifelong advocate for the working class. The democracy and movements that emerged from the political uprisings of her childhood inspired in her an enduring conviction: that when we come together, even the most insurmountable things are possible.
Sarahana lives in Esopus with her husband, their dog Seaweed, and several free-spirited chickens.
Sarahana’s Priorities
Climate & Energy
The only state legislator to intervene in the Central Hudson rate case; introduced a bill to ban late fees and shut-offs during major investigations and to make Central Hudson publicly-owned.
Housing
Pass Good Cause Eviction and has a plan to build permanently affordable and high quality homes by creating a state Social Housing Development Authority
Healthcare
Helped eliminate co-pays on insulin for state-regulated plans, champions universal healthcare with the New York Health Act, and introduced an AARP-backed bill to cap prescription drug prices
“When I ran for office, I was told the Build Public Renewables Act would never pass. We passed it in my first year in Albany, and in my second we passed Good Cause Eviction. I won’t give up this seat until we pass the New York Health Act next.”
